"The bigger the hair, the closer to God." -Dolly Parton Miss USA is this week, and as a former (maybe not former) Pageant Girl, I've definitely got a case of pageant hair fever. I used to get asked all the time how I get my big, bouncy curls to hold, so I decided to share my secrets. My hair is naturally PIN STRAIGHT, so I promise you that this method is a winner.
Step 1: Prep your hair Start with clean, damp hair. Massage in a good amount of volumizing mousse & then blow dry. Once you blow dry- spray your roots with dry shampoo to add some texture. Step 2: Tease those roots, baby Take a small section, hold it straight up to the ceiling, and tease the back side of the hair. Don't tease sideways/with your part for max volume & to avoid a weird bowl shape. Then, spray the section with hairspray. Step 3: Time to curl Take the small section and spritz it with your heat protectant/setting spray. Use your iron to curl it toward the back of your head. Again- don't curl sideways/with your part. Hold it on the iron for 5-10 seconds depending on your hair & your heat settings. Step 4: Loop & Set Ok- this is the step that a lot of people skip, and that's why your hair is not holding fam. When you take your hair off the curler, use your fingers to keep it in a loop toward the back of your head. Then, use your clips or bobbi pins to clip the loop in place. Once you've done this all over your head, hair spray the s*** out of it. Let this set for at least 25-30 mins. Step 5: Brush it out & admire how fab you look Take out all those pins, and gently brush out your curls. The more you brush, the smoother of a look you'll get. Then, you can place the hair how you'd like it and set your part where you want it. Give it one last spritz of hairspray and TA- DAH! You did it- your very own head of voluminous curls. :')
